Back to Light and Laughter is my one-to-one online programme for women who have truly had enough of the darkness and pain that come from living with depression. 

 

Combining functional medicine testing, lifestyle therapy as well as weekly or biweekly coaching calls, we’ll work on your mental health from as many angles as possible. 

This holistic approach is what has worked for me and what is working for my clients. It’s a one-to-one programme, so just you and me over the course of 3 or 6 months. We will work towards understanding the causes of your physical and mental health symptoms, and use lifestyle therapy to help you feel better. We’ll also dive deeply your mindset, beliefs, self-care, self-compassion and many other topics. All based on what is happening for you and what would make the biggest difference to your own mental health.

Why listen to me?

Having suffered from depression once myself, I know the difficulty of just trying to get through each day. The despair, hopelessness and the pain.

Fortunately, I was able to fully overcome depression using a whole range of natural approaches. And now that I’m a qualified nutritionist and positive psychology coach, it’s my aim to help you get to better mental health too.

You'll get

Our first meeting will last 2 hours and will be all about your health, your story, and your goal for our work together. We will review your health questionnaire together, and I will take time to truly listen and understand you as a person as best as possible. 

Underneath the dark veil of depression lies a unique and whole individual with unmet needs and wishes after all!

Together, we will then come up with an initial plan-of-action so that you can leave the first consultation with something new for you to try- whether we’re taking small steps or big steps will entirely depend on you. 
Whichever way, your healing journey can begin! 

We’ll also get you set up on a wonderful online client management platform where we’ll store all your forms, tasks and my recommendations.

Following our initial consultation, we will have 11 1-hour long coaching calls either via video chat or via phone, whichever you prefer. These calls will either be weekly or every two weeks – you choose what’s right for you.

Back to Light and Laughter is tailored to your unique needs, so what we focus on during each session depends on what is best for you.

I will coach you using positive psychology tools and empower you to take action towards greater happiness. We will keep reviewing your progress and make sure you’re on track to your desired goals (and figure them out first if needed too!).

Simply having somebody check in with you once a week and holding you accountable can be extremely powerful and a real game-changer.

Depending on your symptoms, we’ll also make use of laboratory tests to investigate physical root causes of your symptoms.

So we might check your gut health, thyroid health, nutritional deficiencies, energy metabolism, stress response or other systems in your body. 

These tests can make a huge difference to our understanding of what is truly happening within your body.

*The cost of these tests is not included in the programme. Why? Because the particular tests we might want to run can vary hugely from one person to the next. It also of course depends on your financial situation.

Based on your needs and test results, I will advise you on the best foods, supplements and other natural remedies all with the aim to support your brain health as well as your overall health.

You’ll also have my full email support as well as voice message support (Voxer) between sessions from Monday-Friday. Perfect if you’d like me to check in with your progress every few days. I am here to fully support you.

Based on where you are in your healing journey, I will send you worksheets that will help you to discover more about yourself and about what you need to thrive in life. I’ll be sending you handouts on specific topics that are perhaps slightly more technical. 

Most importantly of all, our time working together will give you the chance to truly commit to greater wellbeing, to really focus on getting better and to do so with a 100% caring and supportive coach. I know how unbelievably painful depression can be and I’m fully committed to helping you feel better.

FAQs

In a nutshell, as a coach I help you to get from where you are to where you want to be. It’s about helping you to grow and to learn, rather than teaching you how to do something a certain way. Coaching is very much about taking action and moving forward.

As a coach, I also wholeheartedly believe that you’re already whole, creative and resourceful. You’ve got all or certainly a lot of the answers within you, but particularly when you’re dealing with depression, it can be hard to access those answers. I’ll help you to find that inner voice and to be your best again. 

There are some similarities, but coaching differs quite a bit from counselling. As a coach (and nutritionist), we won’t spend a lot of time going over things that have happened in your past. We will certainly take them into account and you can always talk to me about things that have happened to you, but my role is not to help you “sort them out”. 

Counselling is often about processing what happened in the past. Coaching, on the other hand, is all about what you can do in the here and now to get you to where you want to be in the future. 

You can absolutely do my programme alongside counselling and I’m very happy to collaborate. 

If you think that your current mental health problems are mostly trauma related, then my programme might not be the best choice for you. 

Positive psychology is the scientific study of human thriving. Rather than focusing on what makes humans ill, it looks at the many factors that help individuals lead meaningful and rich lives. It’s often described as “the science of happiness”. I love it!

Which kind of test(s) we might want to use really depends on what you are experiencing physically and mentally. As such, it’s difficult to say without knowing you and your health history in great detail. 

Often though I make use of stool testing, particularly if digestive symptoms have been present for a long time. Perhaps we’ll investigate SIBO (small intestine bacterial overgrowth), or check your thyroid function, or your stress and sex hormones. We might want to run a urinary organic acids test or run a blood test to check for nutritional deficiencies. 

Whichever test we use, they tend to be tests you can do on your own at home. The lab will send the test kit to you, you’ll provide the sample and then simply ship it back to them.

This will vary depending on the tasks you’ve set yourself. Sometimes it might just be an hour here and there per week, other times you might want to commit to an hour or more every day to work on your wellbeing. It really varies and ultimately is completely down to you. You set the pace. This programme is about your wellbeing, and that’s something that never wants to be forgotten about. 

No, my work is not restricted in terms of your location. As long as you have access to the internet or at least a phone number, then we’re all good. 

I would investigate the availability of tests for your country but in most cases shipping is worldwide. 

I hold my sessions mainly during the day Monday to Fridays but also offer a few evening slots (GMT).

In my experience it works incredibly well. My clients often tell me how convenient this way of working together actually is. And if you don’t fancy seeing yourself on video, then we can also run our sessions via the phone. Again, this works really well too, and a lot of my clients actually prefer it that way!

Depression and anxiety often come as a pair. I’ve had quite a few clients for whom anxiety was probably the more troubling issue, and we were able to calm down the nervous system and find better ways of dealing with all those unwanted thoughts and feelings. So yes, I also deal with anxiety. 

I created the Back to Light and Laughter with one goal only: to help you feel better. If you repeatedly find that you cannot stick to the tasks you’ve set yourself, then we’ll reassess them. We’ll make sure they are truly aligned with your deepest desires. We’ll make sure that they’re feasible. And I’ll increase my support and role as an accountability buddy for you, if that’s what might make the difference.

This programme won’t finish with a pass or fail grade at the end. The whole aim is for you to feel healthier and happier. We will work towards that in whichever way is best for you. 

I can’t guarantee a particular outcome. The programme is something that is very much about something that you and I do together. By that I mean that I will do my part, but you’ll need to do your part as well. Supplements and other natural remedies are not the answer alone, neither are the tests. They are all tools. 

As you might be able to imagine, making lifestyle changes often lead to the biggest improvements to your health and sense of wellbeing. And that behaviour change can be hard but that’s also where I’ll be your true support and cheerleader. 

In my experience, the clients that do really well are the ones that put in the effort. They are truly committed to the programme but more importantly they are truly committed to getting better. They will try lots of different things and won’t give up. It’s all about taking action, and I’m here to help you with that.
